  • ESU Foundation president search committee to meet
    The Emporia State University Foundation presidential committee is meeting Thursday with the intention of finalizing the search and hiring process.
  • Men against domestic and sexual violence
    Domestic and sexual violence shatters lives. It tries to hide within the community. Men must get involved to stop the cycle of abuse. SOS Inc. hosted a training session on reaching and engaging men to eliminate abuse from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Lyon County Courthouse Annex Building at 402 Commercial St.
  • Artist, educator explores 'quartets' at the EAC
    The Emporia Arts Center, 815 Commercial St., will be celebrating its first year in the new location from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. This will also serve as the opening reception for the EAC’s first exhibition of 2012, “Painting Music” by Richard Slimon.
  • The Red Dress Ball
    Emporia’s annual Heart Dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight on Feb. 11 at the Emporia Granada Theatre. This annual dress-up event is a perfect date night timed to celebrate National Heart Month as well as Valentine’s Day.
  • Reserve symphony tickets
    Lyon County residents have the opportunity to reserve tickets for the seventh annual Symphony in the Flint Hills event before tickets go on sale to the public March 10. Historically, event tickets sell out in record time – last year all 5,000 general admission tickets were gone in less than 40 minutes.
