Department Information

Operations Division
Staff consists of: three Lieutenants, three Sergeants, twenty-eight Patrol Officers, one Community Service Aide, and two Animal Control Officers.

Operations Division personnel respond to diversified calls for service such as: conducting preliminary investigations of reported crimes, traffic accident investigations, calming disturbances, providing security in business and residential areas, and enforcing criminal and traffic laws.

During 1995, Patrol Officers:
responded to 23,431 calls for service
investigated 6,588 cases
completed 45,306 reports
investigated 1,105 accidents
issued 7,948 notices to appear
arrested or took into custody 3,810 violators.

Investigations Division
Staff consists of: one Lieutenant, seven Detectives, and one civilian Laboratory Technician.

Investigations Division personnel are responsible for the following: investigating reported criminal offenses, drug violations, processing crime scenes, and the collection, examination and management of physical evidence. In addition to criminal case assignments, the daily operation of the photo and forensic laboratories, as well as the property room, are assigned to the Investigations Division. The Investigations Division conducts all background investigations for potential employees in addition to internal investigations. Within the staff are three qualified fingerprint examiners, one polygraph examiner, one detective who specializes in crimes against juveniles, one who specializes in drug cases, and two specialize in gang activities. In addition, there is a detective assigned to the pawnshop detail, and another who manages the intelligence files.

Administrative Division
Staffed by one Sergeant, one Crime/D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Officer, four clerical personnel, one part-time Parking Meter Maintenance person, and six part- time School Crossing Guards.

The division is responsible for maintenance of all records, processing of all criminal, civil and insurance records and other correspondence, data entry into the department’s computer, servicing customers at the front counter, selling animal licenses and providing parking enforcement. The Community Relations Officer provides an active community relations program which includes Neighborhood and Business Watch, high school and community Crime Stoppers program, high school and grade school D.A.R.E. programs, and other liaison activities.

Administration Division
The division is staffed by the Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, one Administrative Assistant, and one Administrative Secretary. The division is responsible for the overall supervision of the Police Department.
