Welcome! It's a great day to visit Emporia, Kansas: Front Porch to the Flint Hills. Our location at the intersection of I-35, the Kansas Turnpike, Highway 99 and Highway 50 makes Emporia a terrific stopover spot.

The Emporia Convention and Visitors Bureau is eager to make your stay here as pleasant and interesting as possible. We offer a Visitors Guide, quarterly Calendars of Events, a Flint Hills Driving Tours brochure, a special "For Kids, By Kids" brochure, and an enthusiastic, well-trained staff. For more information, call us at 800-279-3730 or 316-342-1803 and ask for Sarah Wyrick, Visitor Service Assistant.

Emporia offers visitors the conveniences of a big city with the character of a small mid-western town. Many Victorian homes, tree-lined avenues, brick streets, and welcoming front porches have been preserved as reminders of our heritage.

Emporia is also the headquarters for information about the entire Flint Hills region of east-central Kansas. The five million acres of grassland called the Flint Hills comprise the largest unbroken tract of tallgrass prairie left in North America. The area gained national and international attention recently following the publication of William Least Heat-Moon's PrairyErth. Covered with native bluestem grasses and colorful wildflowers, the Flint Hills region is considered by many to offer the world's best grazing land.

So, we suggest you enjoy some time on the "Front Porch" visiting our local attractions, then use Emporia as your hometown for excursions out into the Flint Hills.

Thanks for stopping by!
